Is the massive world of online gaming here to stay? Why is it so addictive? We interview a gaming expert to find out more...
Question 1: Dave, you are a serious online gamer. Tell us: why do you like Internet MMO gaming so much? What is the one thing that makes MMO gaming so much more interesting than say paintball or flag football?
Gamer Dave S.: I think onling gaming is appealing for many of the same reasons that traditional games and sports are appealing. You get to share your experiences and accomplishments with friends and fellow players, you get to be part of team, you get to socialize, and so on. Of course, online games are a very convenient way to do this compared to organizing, say, paintball matches, particularly if you
have friends in different locales.
Question 2) What are your three current favorite MMO games on the Net? About how many hours have played you on each game?
Gamer Dave S.: It's no secret that I'm a big World of Warcraft fan. Since the game's release in 2004 I've put in thousands of hours in Azeroth - I haven't looked at the exact figure in a while.
Another game I've always enjoyed is PlanetSide, because it combines first-person shooter combat with the scale of a massively multiplayer game. I like Guild Wars a lot too, although I haven't spent nearly as much time with it and I hesitate to call it a MMOG. It's pretty hard to play more than 1 or 2 games of this kind on a regular basis and still find time for sleep.
Question 3) If you could only play *one* MMO game for the next two years, which game would it be? Why is that game special?
Gamer Dave S.: Like most people, I would have to say World of Warcraft. There are reasons WoW is such a dominant force in the PC game industry right now. A solid variety of content, a captivating world with tremendous art direction, a terrific game engine, and naturally, an enormous development budget. I also have a soft spot for player vs. player Battlegrounds. I'm always open to new releases, however, and there are some very promising titles on the horizon that may well lure me away from WoW.
