Named "Yet Another Hierarchal Officious Oracle", Jerry and David built Yahoo! as their own personal database in 1994.  It showcased their favorite web pages, and was more a hobby lark than anything else.

Like all other Internet success stories, this venture quickly grew, and the two of them had to postpone their PhD studies because they became millionaires helping Internet users search the Web.
