Before you sell your old computer on Craigslist, or drop it off to be recycled, make sure you wipe the hard drive -- otherwise, your information could be ripe picking for identity thieves. About.com will tell you how to clean your hard drive before you discard it...

Its amazing how few people seem to know this. The company I worked for had a security breach because one of the employees had sold their computer to some small computer store. Sadly they didn’t wipe their hard drive and since they had used the computer for work quite a bit of customer data was stolen, resulting in several lawsuits. Now the company insists that all business is done on the company computers and we get hard drive shredding done by a company called
data killers.
