This article explains how to use the Ctrl+Enter keyboard shortcut in Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome to automatically fill part of a URL.

How to Use the Ctrl + Enter Shortcut

In Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome, it is possible to get the browser to automatically fill in the www. and .com portions of a URL address for you. The command Ctrl+Enter is the keystroke shortcut to make this happen.

  1. Click anywhere in your browser's address bar.

  2. Type the name of a website. Replace any existing text that might be present.

  3. Hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard, then press the Enter key. The browser will automatically fill in the rest of the URL and send you to the site.

If you use the Ctrl+Enter command correctly, you only need to type the middle portion of a .com address. As with nearly all URLs, type all lowercase letters with no spaces.

This command only works for web addresses that end in .com. If you visit a .edu, .gov, .co., uk, .net, .ca website, you will need to type those addresses in manually.
