By Paul Gil, About.com

1 of 5

#5: Last.fm

Web Address: http://www.last.fm/

PROS:

  • Vast library of music.
  • You can network with other radio listeners.
  • Customizing features abound, including: create your own radio stations, vote "love or hate" for a particular artist or song.
  • A helpful recommendation engine will ask for your favorite artists and songs, and then make some corresponding music suggestions for you to explore.

CONS:

  • After a trial period of 30 songs, Last.fm charges 3 dollars per month.
  • The administrators of Last.fm observe user behavior and discuss their findings with record companies.
  • The site sometimes feels like Facebook or MySpace as it tries to incorporate social networking.

Editor's Note: these Internet radio stations were chosen through a semi-formal poll of our readers. The evaluation criteria was a subjective blend of music selection breadth and depth, ease of use for beginners, friendly navigation, availability, system requirements, and how convenient the service is. This list is subject to change as users continue to submit their votes via email.
