Choice 2) Install XP Service Pack 2, and use IE Popup Blocker

Why Use This Popup Blocker Option? For security reasons, you really should upgrade to Microsoft XP Service Pack 2. As you perhaps know, a "service pack" is really a patch that repairs deficiencies in the software . In this case, Microsoft created XP "SP2" to patch several security leaks in both Windows and in the IE6 browser. Both of these otherwise-excellent products had leaks that permitted gifted hackers to steal your passwords and lure you into phishing web pages. In a few rare cases, people had their identities stolen because of these Microsoft leaks. XP Service Pack 2 effectively repairs 99% of those problems.

Although SP2 does create some headaches during its initial installtion, the enhanced security is absolutely worth it. Read more on XP SP2 problems here, and how to prepare to install it here.

Pros: XP SP2 not only plugs 99% of the security holes in your Microsoft computer, but it also adds in some excellent built-in popup blocking to your IE6 browser. The new Integrated IE popup blocker is a favorite amongst most IE users...it has very few false positives, and it adaptively allows you to enable popups as you need them.

Cons: Installation can cause you headaches if you are unprepared. Also, SP2 will pester you with overly-cautious security messages every 30 seconds until you disable them. Make sure you check About Windows for guidance on SP2.
