Internet Governance: Web Politics

Does anyone control the internet? Are there internet police? Who owns the web?
The Internet Society, ISOC
Based in Virginia, the ISOC oversees the Internet's growth by housing the IETF and IAB technical groups, and by providing an advisory non-profit influence when responding to Internet issues. The ISOC has great intentions, and you can join as a global member for no cost. Check it out... you might find it quite interesting.
The Internet Engineering Task Force: IETF
These people are the best kinds of nerds: they research and develop technology for the Internet. While adhering to the directives of the IAB, the IETF has Working Groups of volunteers who investigate what works and what doesn't work for the Internet's cables and software. If you fancy yourself a networking-savvy computer person, perhaps you might want to join one of these IETF Working Groups.
The Internet Architecture Board: IAB
These people are the supervisors of the IETF. The IAB provides architectural guidance of what technology should be allowed on the Internet, and provides technical recommendations to the Internet Society.
Internet Assigned Numbers Authority: IANA
Dealing with the two major technologies of TCP/IP addressing and Domain Name Systems (DNS), the IANA controls how we address web servers around the world. The job of cataloging and managing these billions of addresses is massive, but IANA and its partner, ICANN, does a very good job of keeping all the addresses in check. Visit the IANA web site here...
