"What is 'Chixor'? Is it the same as 'chix0r'?"

By Paul Gil, About.com

Question: "What is 'Chixor'? Is it the same as 'chix0r'?"
You heard this expression at the computer store today. The salesperson called that lady a "chixor", and they both laughed. But what exactly does "chixor" mean?
Answer: "Chixor", commonly pronounced as chick-SOR or sometimes CHICK-er, is a positive descriptor of a technically-savvy and technically-motivated woman. The term chixor is derived from the term hacker or haxor. You will also see variations of the chixor spelling as "chix0r" with a zero instead of an 'o'.

More than just a "computer geek", a chixor is a female who passionately pursues computer knowledge as a profession or a hobby. A chixor is often employed as a computer technician or computer service representative, or is an avid online gamer who participates in MMO's (massive multiplayer online games).

In the information technology business, a chixor is a female technician or analyst who is passionately driven to improve both the hardware and software performance around her. She will have an unusually high level of hardware knowledge, and her problem-solving skills set her apart from other casual users.

In the context of computer gaming, a chixor is a female player who has achieved a very high skill level, and is motivated to improve her skills even more. It is common for a chixor to be a regular player of World of Warcraft, Battlefield 2142, Halo 2, Final Fantasy, or other massive online games.

Editor's comment: while some females might be offended by being called chixors, a great many women are flattered to be given this moniker. Indeed, it is significant to be acknowledged as a talented woman in a male-dominated computer industry. Indeed "chixors" are special people to be appreciated because they are still relatively rare.
