Tim Berners-Lee is a software engineer.  While working in the late 1980's at Switzerland's CERN physics laboratory, Tim devised a way of electronically sending computer documentation as "more than just words" (hypertext).

In 1989, he created the HTML hypertext markup language.  In 1991, it became publicly available to everyone through online Internet connections.

Today, Tim is a director with the Worldwide Web Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
