What Is a 'VPN'?

By July 12, 2013

Follow me on:

A "virtual private network" is the 21st Century way of working from home or from a remote office. By using the Internet to extend your company's office network across many kilometers, it is possible to log into your office computer account from most any Internet connection. There are hacker and eavesdropping concerns, of course. But gratefully, modern VPN's are quite safe. Bradley Mitchell explains VPN's here...

Great blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for
a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any recommendations? Bless you!

Remote work is so common nowadays! I work with people in 3 different countries and have to do some home-office as well, VPN is a most in these cases. There are a lot of free VPN services but I prefer to go with a payed one. I’m not sure about “free security”. I did a lot of research, apparently for personal use hidemyass.com works fine; and for businesses http://www.bell.ca/enterprise/EntPrd_ip_vpn.page

Great article Paul. I think your explanation of Virtual Private Networks is great and goes to good lengths to explain it for the beginner plus makes an interesting read for us more experienced users. I have written an article myself about the top five reasons to use a VPN so I hope you don’t mind me sharing the link with your readers (http://www.vpncompare.co.uk/top-five-reasons-to-use-a-vpn/) – There are definitely a few unknown benefits to using a VPN and we try to explain these in simple terms for the new user, similar to your own article Paul. We’ve also got a comparison table of the best VPN providers so users can learn about the various differences and make an informed buying choice.
