Shallow Friendships: the Modern Internet Experience?

If you are a participant in Facebook or MySpace, you may have 200+ friends in your database, but you will still only have 4 or 5 close friends in the end. At least, that is according to a recent psychology study at Sheffield Hallam University. The study shows that the internet makes it very easy to make friendly acquaintances around the world, but to really form a lasting bond, that takes time and effort in person.
