"What Does '.COM' Really Stand For?"

Tuesday May 6, 2008
Interestingly enough, the .com domain address does not mean "communication". Nor does it mean "computer". As straightforward as it is, most people have no idea what .com really signifies. Get the full .com explanation here.

(1) Steve says:

I disagree that nearly all three letter TLDs are American sites. I do agree that nearly all American sites use three letter TLDs rather than .us but then all other countries use the same three letter TLDs for their domain if they are targetting an international audience. There are several three letter TLDs that are USA only (such as .mil and .gov) but the majority of .com and .net sites would not be owned by people from the US. For example about half of the sites owned by Australians are .com or .net rather than .com.au or .net.au since an international audience is being targetted rather than an Australian one.
